Huge thanks to Jeremy Drake and Parallel Play for having us out this weekend and entertaining the hell out of us with a great festival line-up!
Get ready for lots of creative ways to use the word “folkin’,” because the Deep Ellum Big Folkin’ Festival went down last Saturday at The Prophet Bar and things got folkin’ crazy.
Let’s all start off with some unanimous admiration for the set up of the thing, first of all. Four stages and all those bands, which were laid out into the schedule so seamlessly that transportation between sets was a breeze.
Outdoor vendors helped serve up a good down time, but if you wanted to rock straight from 4:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., you could bounce from set to set with no lag time, no sweat.
Folk yeah.
OK, I’ll stop. Maybe.
This Saturday, March 30th Big Folkin' Festival returns to Deep Ellum, TX at The Prophet Bar with a rad line-up of touring and local acts.
William Beckett and Jillette Johnson join the bill this year along with some local favs like Holy Moly, QCNH, The Roomsounds and Fox and the Bird will be performing with some new local projects like The Venetian Sailors to watch out for that night!
We caught up with fest. co-founder Jeremy Drake who also fronts a local fav. band Parallel Play to find out a little more about the band and festival this year...
Fueled by Ramen/Decaydance fans and your average indie music lover will remember The Academy Is out of Chi-town back in the day [as in last year when they parted ways] which featured William Beckett as lead singer.
Fast forward to this year and Mr. Beckett is doing just fine on his solo path to world travelation.
His Nashville stop at The End [5/26] only a few days old and William is not only walking the talk but he's about to fly straight into Asia to start 9 date run which begins on June 2nd with his leg of the Beyond the Blue Tour [thanks Google Translate] where he'll join Mayday Parade, Every Avenue, There For Tomorrow and more...
No worries North America William makes it back state side July 21st and will tear out of the west coast crossing through the SW U.S. bringing his flavor to all who dig good rock and soul. Considering our next opportunity to catch him live isn't until August 8th with his Dallas show at House of Blues we've got a couple ideas in mind on how to share our experience with everyone who checks back with us the same day of his show! Expect to hear from us soon William if you happen to read this post. Get the real scoop from William himself and check out the Walk The Talk Documentary...
