By Way of Wes Anderson

Our good friends @ Subculture are hosting a great art & music event inspired by director and screenwriter Wes Anderson. A must see for the Fort Lauderdale area!

Subculture and Green Room Gives Film Fans A Night of Art, Music, and Ambience Inspired by Wes Anderson’s Work

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL Sept. 1, 2012 – Subculture (Subcultureus.com) is gathering local and nationally-recognized artists, musicians, and businesses to host By Way of Wes Anderson, an event celebrating the storytelling of Wes Anderson’s films. On Saturday, Sept. 22 at 10 p.m., the event will be hosted at Green Room in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The interior of Green Room will be transform into a mixed media gallery inspired by Anderson’s most popular films, such as “Moonrise Kingdom” (2012) and “The Royal Tenenbaums” (2001). Ranging from oil paintings to three-dimensional pieces, a handful of selected artists will showcase their original works.

One of the curators for the event is local artist and Subculture associate Kristin Frenzel. Not only did Frenzel coordinate artists to join By Way of Wes Anderson, she is also contributing her own intricate props and paintings to fill the spaces. For themed art shows like By Way of Wes Anderson, Frenzel says it can influence artists to push themselves out of their comfort zone. “Events like this have inspired some of my best work, and I know a few other artists who feel the same!” says Frenzel.

Other partners of By Way of Wes Anderson include several vendors of Indie Craft Bazaar, t-shirt screen printers of The Fine Print Shoppe, and photographers Gideon Bonaparte of Digital Cypher Photography and Ian Witlen who will have a commemorative photo booth accompanied with “Body Art By Keegan.” Courtesy of Consequence of Sound, musical acts Saskatchewan and Levek will perform notable songs from the films, as well as their original songs for the first time in South Florida. Additionally, Jolt Radio and DJ Andie Sweetswirl will play their own conceptual mixes throughout the evening. Lastly, Wes Anderson-themed prizes courtesy of our artists and sponsors will be raffled during the event.

More than celebrating the iconic sights and sounds of Anderson’s films, the event is about supporting the South Florida community. This is why Fort Lauderdale’s own Riverside Market will be catering their own specialty dishes for which proceeds will go directly to their “Support The Riverside Market” campaign.  For this event, Subculture’s CEO Phillip Roffman reached out to Riverside Market with no hesitation. “We wanted to bring people not only great entertainment in the sense of artistry, but phenomenal food from people who have a message and purpose.” Roffman concludes, “We couldn’t think of anyone else but Riverside Market and their campaign aimed at keeping their local market and restaurant alive.”

Tickets for By Way of Wes Anderson are priced at $5 each and are available to online at Ticketmaster.com or in person at the Revolution Live box office at 100 SW 3rd Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312. This event is 21+ only. For updates, please check the event page on Facebook.
