Wild Party - Review + Interview

Review/Photos by: Amber Davis

A dance party? Check. A Wild Party? Double check.

A power-pop group from San Antonio, Texas visited Nashville at 12th & Porter. Their catchy lyrics and simple but even more catchy melodies made a bearded man dance like he has never heard music before.

Before the show, Wild Party introduced themselves to us leaving a lasting - charming impression on us. Once on stage, the small crowd, who traveled from Chattanooga  created a dancing frenzy and sang along to every lyric.

Even two older men who were drinking in the back, walked up closer and started to nod their heads.

Wild Party’s sound is a much hyper version of The Killers with a 80's mix. With 80's music becoming more popular we have no doubt in our minds that Wild Party will be a huge hit.

In fact, after talking to them after the show they told us their next stop was for a photoshoot for Nylon Magazine’s music edition. Check out an interview we grabbed with the band a few days before their Nashville stop.

GBS:
As fast as Phantom Pop was taking off on iTunes and other online outlets, what do you guys think will be the biggest difference between that release and the new EP "All Nighter"?
WP:
I think the biggest difference will be momentum. We released our full length with little to no content at all besides our music video for "when i get older', we had literally done nothing for 6 months intentionally to gain freedom, and we were actually separated in different cities as a band. In a way, we released our first video and full length as a test to see what might happen. Because of all of the attention it generated, it really resurrected the band from obscurity and excited us to go at it full force.  Since taking the album down we have come together again, began practicing, recording, playing shows, taking pictures, making more videos, and have tried to take advantage of social media as best we can. So, I think we're definitely going about things the right way this go around and building it up before we blow our load.

GBS:
How did Evan Kaufmann get involved with directing your latest video/single for "Out Right"?
WP:
Evan is Ethan, our drummers, older brother. So we're just lucky to know the guy. He also shot our video for " Take My Advice " Which will be released later this month.

GBS:
So it's been roughly three years since you guys opened for The Wombats on their UK tour.  How much of the time seems like a blur and what has really stood out in general up to now?
WP:
It definitely seems like a blur. It came and went really fast and the first show on that run happened to be our 3rd show of all time. I almost prefer it being a blur though because I feel like the band has grown up so much since then that thinking about my performance during that time is a bit painful. ha! About a year after that run we did another run with The Wombats in the U.S. where we played nyc, la, san fran, and seattle.. What stands out most to me now is how much more comfortable we are, not only on stage, but as a band internally.. The long and often difficult journey we've been on has really strengthened us and prepared us for what's to come.

GBS:
Is this your first time playing live in Nashville?
WP:
Yep! we're really pumped to play in the music city.

GBS:
You're headed back to San Antonio next right?  Any upcoming future live dates you are all really excited about playing?
WP:
We're really excited for our CD Release/Showcase that we're playing in San Antonio, May 17th. But, we have quite a few other dates that we're pretty excited about as well like... Shreveport on 4/20 and the place we've played quite a few times and always enjoy, Laredo, TX.

Catch the "Out Right" Official Music Video directed by Evan Kaufmann and make a point to see Wild Party live soon!  It's a good time, trust us!
